The Bashundhara Group is one of Bangladesh's major industrial giants. East West Property Development Ltd was founded in 1987 as a real estate development firm (EWPD). The Bashundhara Group was formed in 1987 as a real estate business by Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, the current Chairman. Bashundhara Group's Managing Director is Sayem Sobhan Anvir. Following the success of its first initiative, Bashundhara expanded into additional areas such as manufacturing, industry, and commerce. In the early 1990s, other businesses sprung up, including cement, paper, pulp, tissue paper, and steel manufacturing, as well as LP Gas bottling and distribution. The Bangladesh Supreme Court summoned Bashundhara Group officials to appear before it on February 4, 2014, in connection with a tax fraud lawsuit brought by the caretaker administration.
